A “Jollibee-sponsored” Birthday Party
My brother celebrated his birthday last week and we were making fun of him because his “birthday party” was sponsored by Jollibee. Yes, Jollibee! And no, I’m not joking! 🙂
If you’re a BPI credit card holder, you’re probably aware of their “Shop Anywhere & Share Unlimited Joy this Season” promo. If you’re not, oh poor you! (joke!):)
The promo was open to all existing BPI Express Credit Classic and MasterCard cardholders and fortunately, we’re one of them. I’m actually the Principal Cardholder and I just made my brother as Supplementary to avail of some of the perks and freebies that BPI offers when they have promos just like the one I mentioned above.
As per the mechanics, to qualify, cardholder should use any of the QUALIFIED BPI Express Credit card within the promo period (October 15, 2014 to January 31, 2015) for a minimum single receipt transaction of P2,500, P6,000 or P12,000 at any merchant and redeem any of the featured food items at any participating Jollibee store nationwide.
I know my brother very well and I trust him so much that I didn’t have second thoughts when I made him a Supplementary Cardholder. He owns a small grocery store and he uses his credit card to pay for their grocery items, but he deposits the payment almost always right on the same day. He doesn’t like debts so he makes it a point to pay his credit card dues on or before its due date.
Now you ask, “Why does he use his credit card if he has the cash?”
Actually, that’s what he used to do. He pays everything in cash until I told him about the “good side” or the benefits of having and using a credit card. And one of the benefits was to qualify for the credit card promo that I mentioned earlier. But I just want to emphasize this. Doing this takes a lot of discipline. Why? Because oftentimes, it’s hard to control yourself when you have the credit card to use for your purchases. Unlike if you have cash, you’re only limited to the stuff that you can buy with your available cash and it helps avoid overspending.
So what did he get by using his credit card instead of paying in cash?
Well, like what I said at the very beginning of this post, he celebrated his birthday with food sponsored by Jollibee! 🙂
He kept all his receipt transactions of P12,000 from October 15, 2014 to January 31, 2015 and guess what? He had a total of 15 receipts which were equivalent to 90 pieces of Jollibee Chickenjoy! More than enough to feed his family and close friends who visited him on his birthday. 🙂 He also prepared other menus for his birthday, but getting 90 pieces of Jollibee Chickenjoy for free was a huge savings for him.
The promo has already ended, but I’m sure BPI will come up with a similar promo soon. They also partnered previously with Pizza Hut, Taco’s, Dairy Queen, and Chowking. Let’s see what’s next! 🙂
