Next goal: Hiking with Friends?
It’s summer time again and this season reminds me of one of the items on my bucket list that still remains unchecked.
That is, to go hiking and trekking with my high school friends…
They’ve been inviting and encouraging me to join them in their hiking trips, but with my current responsibilities plus my not-so-fit physique, I don’t feel confident about going with them.
But deep inside me, I feel very excited by the thought that I will go hiking again just like the old times.
I remember during my younger days, my cousins and I would go to our grandparents’ farm and we would go even farther without them knowing that we were already hiking and climbing in the mountains.
That was really fun!
Yesterday, I chatted with my high school bestie, who is very passionate about nature and who’s very active in hiking and trekking.
I asked her about their recent trips and she was very eager to share with me her experiences.
She’s got a lot on her list already. Wow!
1) MT. MANALMON
2) MT. Gola
3) MT. BATULAO
4) MT. PULAG
6) MT. Hapunang BANOI
She also told me about their next trip which is in Hulugan falls in Laguna and she’s inviting me again (and again) to join them. 🙂
Honestly, I felt excited (but I didn’t tell her about it) 🙂
I just asked her some tips and necessary preparations before anyone goes on hiking or trekking.
I know it’s a challenging activity so someone who’s thinking about hiking MUST really prepare!
Hmm I wonder who that someone is… 🙂
Here’s what she said:
- You must be prepared physically, emotionally, mentally, and spiritually.
You don’t necessarily need to be in perfect body shape (though that helps), but it’s better to have enough energy/stamina and good mindset before you go on hiking.
You can’t go hiking right there and then without exercising or preparing your body few days or even months before the hiking date.
- Prepare the stuff that you will need for hiking.
It’s perfect to use Hawk bags for hiking and trekking trips.
That’s what she personally uses and she likes it because it’s light and it has enough space for all her other stuff.
Make sure you have all the necessary stuff inside your Hawk bag including:
Water, food (canned goods), map, sunscreen for protection, jacket, long pants, gloves, hats, flashlight and extra batteries, first-aid kit, matches or lighter, knife or multi-tool, tent, blanket, and other important stuff.
- While hiking, you have to follow the leader, keep close to your colleagues or teammates.
- Never go hiking alone! The more, the merrier!
Take a lot of pictures, but be extra careful and cautious when hiking and trekking.
- Have fun, fun, fun!
I wish I could join them on their next trip, but I think I have to prepare myself first.
Can’t wait! 🙂
